How long do job records take to clear up?

At my old workplace, the manager gave me her code to open up the cash register, and told me to use it when no one else is around. Well, one day there was an emergency when I gave the wrong change by accident and there were no managers and supervisors to be seen (go figure). They caught me punching in the code and opening the register on camera, and called me into the HR office a few days later. I told them about why I opened the register, about my boss giving me her code, and whatever the problem is, they should discuss it with her because I was only doing what I was told.

Two weeks later, my boss disappeared. Three days after that, I got terminated as well. Since then, I haven’t been able to get hired anywhere, and I just found out that it’s because they fired me for "stealing from the register?" It’s too late to fix that now, so I wanna know how long will this take to clear. I need to work ASAP because I need money. This was about 6 months ago by the way.

A job record isn’t like a credit report, future employers can go back and check up on previous employment for as long as they want to go back. Especially companies who hire the services of companies who specifically check your background.

Obviously you learned the hard way that you should excercise good judgement regardless of what you have been ‘told’ to do. You should have called a supervisor or manager.

Do you tell the employer that you are seeking employment from that you worked there before. You do not have to give them that information. If you were not charged with a crime than it should not be on a background check. Other wise you will have to do some research. Depending on the offense. If it is a misdemeanor A than it can take up to 3 years I believe. I hate to say this but your criminal, even driving record is current for at least 3 years.
